David M. Carter, co-Chairman of the Board

David M. Carter is the Executive Director of the University of Southern California’s Sports Business Institute and is a professor of sports business at USC’s Marshall School of Business. Additionally, he founded the Sports Business Group in 1999 following more than ten years of consulting for the sports and entertainment industries. As a sports business consultant specializing in strategic marketing, Mr. Carter has consulted for corporations, sports organizations, sports and entertainment venues, law firms, municipalities, and individual athletes. Further, Mr. Carter regularly provides sports-business commentary to national media concerns. He has also authored three books about the sports business industry. Mr. Carter is a graduate of the University of Southern California where he obtained both a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in finance.


Vincent Hoenigman, co-Chairman of the Board

Vince Hoenigman began his career in high technology, helping found ibis consulting, a San Francisco based IT services company that merged into Proxicom Inc., a leading Internet Services Company. After retiring from Proxicom, he started Citymark Development, a real estate development company that develops urban-infill housing in Southern California and Nevada. He has served on the boards of Larkin Street Youth Services, Our Children’s Earth, The National Parks Conservation Association and the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from UCLA and master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and two young children.


Peter Straus, President and Vice Chairman

Peter Straus is the Founder and Executive Director of Team Prime Time, having held this position since the program’s inception in 2001. Under Peter’s leadership the organization has seen its outreach increase 80-fold — from 20 students in its first year to a record 1,600 in 2010. Peter is also the Founder and Executive Director of Prime Time Sports Camp, one of the largest privately owned sports and recreation programs for youth in Los Angeles. Peter is a graduate of UCLA, and is on the Board of Directors of the Isadore and Sadie Dorin Foundation, and a member of the Westcoast Sports Associates Advisory Board.


Michael G. Herman, Corporation Secretary

As a lawyer with more than 25 years experience, Michael Herman has conducted a broad practice in the areas of real estate, business and commercial transactions. Mr. Herman received his A.B. degree in History, with honors, in 1976 from Stanford University, where he served as student body president. In 1980, he received his J.D. degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, where he was on the editorial board of the Communications and Entertainment Law Journal.

As a practicing attorney, Mr. Herman is a member of the State of California and Los Angeles County bar associations, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. Besides serving on the Board of Directors of Team, Prime Time, Inc., Mr. Herman is the past president of the West Los Angeles Little League and has coached Little League baseball for 19 years in the West Los Angeles and Beverly Hills programs.

 

Robert Hinds, Treasurer

Robert Hinds is a Senior Accounting Manager for the Management (AthleteRepresentation) Practice at Wasserman Media Group. Additionally, he earned 3 Varsity Letters as a member of the UCLA Baseball Team and competed professionally with the New York Yankees.

He also served as an Assistant Coach for the UCLA Baseball Team. Mr. Hinds is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and of the University of San Francisco where he received a Master of Arts degree in sports management.

Corey Davidson

Corey Davidson is a Managing Director with Studley Commercial Real Estate Services.  Corey joined Studley in 2001 following a career working for a large real estate investment firm where he focused on both leasing and investment sales.  During this time he completed over 150 leasing transactions, and was responsible for developing and implementing the disposition strategy for a portfolio of more than 60 investment properties. 


As a principal with Studley Corporate Services Group (CSG), he is responsible for developing and delivering strategic consulting and brokerage services that bridge corporate finance and commercial real estate for companies with facilities in multiple markets.

 

Helen E. Gaskin

Helen Gaskin is the Founder/Executive Vice President of Crimson Insurance Services, Inc. Additionally, she has founded and is Executive Vice President of the following companies: Crimson Services, Inc., Crimson Life Reinsurance Company Ltd and Topanga Reinsurance Company. Helen Gaskin graduated from the University of Southern California in Elementary Education with a specialty in Remedial Reading.

Mrs. Gaskin entered the financial industry and in 1989 was founder/Executive Vice President of a Third Party Administration Company that was sold in the year 2000 to a Fortune 1000 company. In 1990, She founded and became Executive Vice President of PLICO Reinsurance Company, Ltd., and its successor, Crimson Life Reinsurance Company, Ltd., which continues active operations today. She is a founding member of The Everychild Foundation, a member of women’s philanthropic group. She is also an active contributor of Westside Food Bank and a member of Women Helping Youth. Helen is married and has three children. Her oldest is a freshman at the University of Miami in Florida. Her twins are juniors at Palisades Charter High School. 


Joel K. Kurtz

Joel Kurtz is a Senior Vice President for Bailes & Associates, Inc. a commercial real estate brokerage firm specializing in representing both local and national office tenants.
Joel began his commercial real estate career as an investment specialist with C.B. Richard Ellis and later took over the management of this 60 person West Los Angeles office which specialized in the office, investment, industrial and retail areas of commercial real estate. Mr. Kurtz managed the office for 15 years and during that time the office was one of the top producing offices in the country.

Joel is a graduate of New York University School of Commerce where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. Joel and his wife Eileen live in West Los Angeles and have three children and five grandchildren.

 

Michael Leitner

Michael Leitner is a Managing Partner with Tennenbaum Capital Partners.  Prior to joining TCP in 2005, Mr. Leitner served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development for WilTel Communications, and before that as President and Chief Executive Officer of GlobeNet Communications, leading the company through a successful turnaround and sale.  Previously, he was Vice President of Corporate Development of 360networks and served as Senior Director of Corporate Development for Microsoft Corporation, managing corporate investments and acquisitions in the telecommunications, media, managed services, and business applications software sectors.  Prior to Microsoft, he was a Vice President in the M&A group at Merrill Lynch.  He currently serves as a representative for TCP on the boards of Integra Telecom and Online Resources, and is board observer to Primacom GmbH.    

 

Mike Linn 

Mike is in the third year of his second tenure as UCLA's Head Athletic Performance Coach. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist as well as a Level One weightlifting coach. A national speaker in his field, he is also a published author in the field of human performance. In addition to working directly with the football team, he oversees all operations in UCLA's 15,000 square foot weight room.

Mike rejoined the Bruin program in February of 2007 after serving as the Vice President of Performance for Velocity Sports Performance. While at Velocity Sports Performance, he worked to develop training programs for its 63 franchise locations and over 20,000 athletes nationwide. 

Mike joined the Board of Team Prime Time specifically to oversee the expansion of the Prime Time Games, Team Prime Time's full-inclusion, peer mentor sports program.

David Siegel

David is the Senior Director of Ticket Sales with the Los Angeles Dodgers and just completed his 15 season with the organization. He has the rare distinction of working for all three Los Angeles owners starting under Peter O'Malley, then News Corp and currently the McCourt Family. As Director of Sales he is responsible for the clubs largest revenue stream which this season has resulted in the number one attendance in all Major League Baseball. He has a bachelors degree of Communications from the University of California at San Diego where he was a three year letter winner as a member of the baseball team.
